What’s in Liz’s iPod?

Since I am feeling rather uninspired we shall play a round of, “What’s in Liz’s iPod?”  More specifically, let us examine my latest race playlist:

The current selection is rather eclectic mix of music that has a good beat, keeps me motivated and entertains.  In general, I am a rock and alternative type person with very little interest in pop or club music which makes some of these song choices very strange but they work so here they are.

S&M – Rihanna
I am really digging this tune right now and thought it would be a great way to start off my self-inflicted torture on race day.  Worked like a charm!

On the Floor – Jennifer Lopez with Pitbull
Another current favorite.  I am not normally into club music but since the song’s appearance in Zumba I can’t help but dig in and move when it comes on.

So What – P!nk
Another good one that just gets me moving that brings out my inner defiant chick.  I am fat, but I can run!

Raise Your Glass – P!nk
I am definitely too school for cool!

I Know You Want me – Pitbull
I know you do.  I am also likely to break out into spontaneous Zumba when I hear this.

Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas
Good beat and I am so 2000 and late.

I Gotta Feeling – Blacked Eyed Peas
So cliché, but a great motivator as I hit my stride.

Get the Party Started – P!nk
I get a huge boost of energy with a pang of sadness when this one comes on.   This was Kendrik’s theme song and it always got us both psyched to compete.  I miss him terribly and somehow that motivates me to keep going too.

Short Skirt/Long Jacket – Cake
I am changing my name from Kitty to Karen…

Flathead – The Fratellis
It’s a great fun song with a compulsive beat that keeps me going during the meat of the run.

Italian Leather Sofa – Cake
I am not sure how it started, but years ago while hiking this song popped into my head on the most difficult sections when I was very physically challenged.  I would repeat it to myself over and over again.  It has a slower beat, but always refocuses me, makes me smile and helps me pick up the pace.  Go figure…

The Distance – Cake
Every race of mine needs to end with this song.  Apparently I can go from a 12 minute mile to a 10 minute mile while smiling like an idiot the instant I hear, “Reluctantly crouched at the starting line…”
